Demlese
A race that seems to be on its last legs, divided by those trying to live on in a new way and those who hold tight to their traditional ways of living. They are the most human of all of Itheria’s races, having the least magical affinity and their only special quality being having some traits of an animal. They are stereotyped as being a barbaric and uncivilized people.

Physical Attributes
Demlese are humanoid with the added traits of an animal, usually the ears and tail. While none are entirely anthropomorphic, they may have some extra features from their origin animal aside from the usual ears and tail.. Almost all of the origin animals that Demlese traits are derived from are non-avian mammals.
With their way of life and traditions, including travel almost solely by foot, the Demlese have evolved to become one of the most physically powerful of the races. Even those who have left the old ways tend to find themselves doing a lot of physical labor. This has led to most of their kind being of a naturally muscular and strong physique.
Even so, they have the shortest lifespan of all the races at only around 80 to 100 years and also usually age physically at the same rate as an ordinary human. However, the origin animal with which they share their traits can have an impact on the length of life at times.
Due to being tied to the animal with which they share their traits both physically and spiritually, Demlese may find that they are naturally able to pick up a spell in the Transformation Division to expand their animal features briefly or even transform into their origin animal fully for a period. They may also lean naturally toward the Art of Taming as well.

Pack Life
Though this life is difficult and slowly becoming a thing of the past for the Demlese, some still choose to live in packs based on their origin races. Those who do still hold to these traditional ways of life take great pride in it and even seem to look down on and shame those who have chosen to leave it as they see these “deserters” as having accepted defeat and allowing their lifestyle to die out.
A Demlese Pack Tribe is extremely tight knit, which helps to keep them self sufficient. However, they may ally with or mate with other packs, usually those of a similar or the same origin species. However, some packs may also be their rivals or enemies. As a nomadic people, they are constantly moving around the wilderness and, when they feel the need, sometimes even through towns.
Each member of the pack has a very important role which they must perform in the pack, as well as answering to their Chief or Alpha. The Alpha also chooses a Beta to act as their right hand and assist them in keeping track of the pack- should something happen to the Alpha and there is no heir to take over, there is always the Beta to take over so the Pack will not fall apart. Aside from the Alpha and Beta there are Hunter/Gatherers who look for food for the Pack, Scouters who watch their surroundings and seek out good places to rest, Warriors who defend the Pack, and Shaman/Healers who act as doctors and counsel for members of the pack.
The place of Alpha, for the most part, passes down through one family. The heir may take place as the new Alpha once he can beat his father in a fight- in some packs, this may even mean killing him in order to take the place. That said, though there is no official ceremonies involved another member may also take over the pack in a similar manner.
They tend to run on a schedule in tune with the movement of the sun and moon, waking at dawn and setting up their camps before sunset.

Notable Packs
The most large and notable packs tend to be organized by their origin species and sometimes even by element.
Modernized
Many Demlese have chosen to leave the life of the Pack and instead live among the other races, often trying to blend in as much as possible. They tend to be looked down on by both their own kind who still stay true to the old ways of living and by the races they join as well. The former sees them as 'deserters' and consider them to be betraying their kind while the latter think of them as parasites taking up their resources.
Some are those who have been exiled from their packs, others are those who's packs have disbanded or fallen, and still others simply chose to leave for a new life. Many of these sorts believe that the old ways are dying and that if there was no change, the Demlese will have no future. Some simply wished to have more freedom and control of their own paths of life....some simply had no choice and nowhere else to go.
Since the people who these Demlese choose to live among consider them barbaric, the better the Demlese assimilate to their “host” races ways the less likely they are to face major discrimination. However, this is difficult and some still wish to practice some of the rituals of their race’s tradition. Most Demlese who live this way are hired for menial labor by those of the ‘host’ race they live among, usually living in the more poor areas as well. They try to make the best of their situation and often befriend those who are nearby to them, forming small communities regardless of their origins.
